Hazak For Active Adults
Hokhmah-Ziknah-Kadima | Wisdom-Maturity-Forwardlooking
Hazak (Hebrew for “strength”) is an organization within United Synagogue designed specifically for adults at or above the age of 55. Kol Shalom’s award-winning chapter brings Hazak members together for thought-provoking and entertaining programs that complement Kol Shalom’s ongoing educational, social, cultural and spiritual programming. Hazak is an acronym for Hokhmah-Ziknah-Kadima (wisdom-maturity-forwardlooking); with these qualities and life goals in mind, individuals in our chapter bring their unique perspectives from their lifelong experiences in their careers and their Jewish journeys. If you enjoy travel and meeting new people, you may be interested in Hazak travel opportunities. Members of Kol Shalom’s Hazak chapter travel with members of other Hazak chapters throughout the country, to destinations in the US, Israel and Europe. Our current Hazak members welcome you! If you would like to connect with Kol Shalom Hazak, please contact Neil Newman.

Join us for a rare opportunity to see
"Beautiful Hills of Brooklyn," the short film that has won 18 awards,
including at the D.C. Independent Film Festival. Based on a true story,
this poignant gem illuminates the joys and sorrows of Jessie, an elderly
Jewish woman living alone in Brooklyn – with a dash of Walt Whitman added to
the mix. It stars Joanna Merlin (Fiddler on the Roof, Law and
Order SVU). Local writer Ellen Cassedy, who discovered the diary upon
which the film is based, takes us behind the scenes and leads a discussion.
You may find out more about Ellen at www.ellencassedy.com
. A short meeting will take
place after the movie and discussion, to talk about ideas for the Hazak
2013-2014 season.
