The next Kol Shalom book selection is The Last Palace: Europe’s Turbulent Century in Five Lives and One Legendary House. The author is Norman Eisen, former U.S. ambassador to Czechoslovakia and the house is the ambassador’s residence – built by a Jewish family and occupied by a German general who saved both the house and Prague from Nazi destruction. The book is a reflection on the post-war years and the echoing effects on Eisen’s and other families.
