Shalom Kol Shalom Families!
I am Rabbi Tirza Covel, and I am pleased to join the congregation as the Director of the Neshama School. My professional background includes 25+ years in congregational school settings and several years in day school education. I currently spend my summers as Rosh Omanut, head of arts & crafts, at Ramah Day Camp of Greater Washington.
Please visit me in my office – Classroom Chet – at Kol Shalom as I settle in. I am impressed at the thoughtfulness that is going into the vision of the Neshama School. Over the summer, I will work with the Task Force and many parents and volunteers to craft a curriculum that works for our students and reflects our community’s values. Students will learn in full classes on Sundays, participate in Shabbat activities, and meet individually or in small groups for weekday Hebrew lessons (usually over Zoom).
We anticipate having three classrooms of joined grades this fall. The Neshama School is looking for year-round teachers, teen madrichim (classroom aides), and occasional guests to teach a session or two in their specialty areas (cooking, ethics, Torah trope, ecology, etc). If you know of someone great and/or your teen is interested, please be in touch.
Please reach out at any time: neshamaschool@kolshalom.com or 301 309-9110. I look forward to getting to know you and your families this year.
L’shalom,
Tirza Covel
