Women’s Rosh Chodesh Group

In the Fall of 2021, we initiated this new affinity group to give women the opportunity to connect and learn together in a welcoming, warm, creative, receptive environment. Rosh Chodesh celebrates the new moon, welcoming the new month in the Jewish calendar. The unique feature of the moon is how it changes all the time, diminishing and growing again. Every time we celebrate the new moon, it’s a reminder to us to hope in renewal, goodness and blessings for the month to come. It’s also an opportunity for us to start thinking about the holiday or events occurring in that month. Women have traditionally been associated with Rosh Chodesh because of their connection to a monthly cycle and because of other biblical associations.

Each month, different women are invited to present a topic in their expertise, as it relates to women and the Jewish month. Our meetings have led to interesting, informative and creative discussions. Some of the themes have been the role of women in times of the Macabbees, sharing Chanukah memories, analyzing women in biblical themed paintings, how to keep our bodies healthy through exercise and how we are impacted by the depiction of Jewish women in film and TV.

Women are invited to join us whenever they can. For more info about the group, contact Barbara Leiner or Sally Heckelman.
