| Specific Information about the August 16th hike:
Duration and difficulty: 1.5 – 2 hour moderate hike covering approximately 3 miles. See attached map. For our club, “Moderate” means a dirt trail; some hills but no rock scrambling. “Easy” would be a primarily asphalt trail. “Difficult” would involve some rock scrambling. Please RSVP to either Leslie (meitnerium54@yahoo.com) or Andy Sheldon (andysheldon@yahoo.com). When you do, provide your contact information. |
Important Notes:
1. Bring water. Also snacks or trail mix if you wish.
2. Wear hiking boots or very sturdy tennis shoes. Blockhouse Point trails are fairly wide but are not paved. There are some gentle hills to go up and down – maybe 150 feet elevation at most. We are also under tree canopy most of the time.
3. Use standard tick protection: wear long pants and long sleeves. Wear either an underlayer or long socks that you can use to tuck in your pants. Mosquitoes are generally not a problem – we are not by the canal – but bug spray is always a good idea.
4. This trail does not need hiking sticks and isn’t usually wet.
5. Children are welcome (as long as they can do a 3 mile hike).
